Hola, from San Antonio!
Bad blogger, me!
But now I'm in San Antonio--national interpreter conference. Only us crazies would plan a week-long conference in one of the hottest cities in the freaking country, in the middle of July!
Regardless, I'm having a blast catching up with people, meeting old friends, making new friends, and otherwise networking. Usually at these conferences are the wisest, best-est interpreters, as well as the new, up-coming baby interpreters. Therefore, there's lots of time for awe, whining, hero-worshipping, and comparing notes -- and training too! *hehehe*
Biennial friendships are not fleeting, they're just in slow-motion.
Oh, a retraction:
The Deaf woman I thought had died two weeks ago, in fact, did not! So, she's alive and well. No #3 there.
But on another note, a past employer of mine (who forever fought to not pay me and other interpreters what we're worth), just passed away from "liver disease". Who knows if that's euphemistic or not, but it's the officially printed obit.
There, three it is. Now we can get on with life.
On the yarn homefront, I'm making cheap-o 4-stitch crocheted- scarves (with contrasting/enhancing single-crochet & single-chain borders) for immediate purchase at this conference. I brought a small suitcase full of a variety of novelty yarns.
Here's how it goes: I start making the body of a scarf during a workshop. Someone sees it, loves it, and asks me if I'm selling them. I ask them if they like it, and I ask for their favorite colour. I quickly do that (45 minutes or so) for the body, and another 15 minutes for the borders. In 1 hour I can finish 1 scarf, therefore in one 3-hour workshop I could theoretically finish 3 scarves. But, because it's usually novelty yarns, difficult subject matter, and I can't go 3-hours continually crocheting, I get 2 done in a 3-hr workshop.
This hotel is freezing! Just had to let you know it. And to go outside - on the Riverwalk, etc. - is fun...but sometimes oppressive. And somewhat humid! (You wouldn't expect it down here - Oh, Texas? That's the dry heat.
What else is going on? Not much. Some fights with the host hotel (I go through it EVERY year!!!). I'll try to keep everyone updated. Though, as soon as I'm done in San Antonio, I immediately fly back to Cleveland (from whence I departed), and then drive to Cincinnati.
After getting about 4 hours of sleep, I'm back on the road to Philadelphia (about 9 hrs!) for the next week. Crazy me? Yep, you know it. :-)
Take care. I'll try to write more later.

Sometimes conference hosts just don't think. Right now I'm trying to figure out who owes who that the NCTE convention was in Indianapolis last year, and Pittsburgh this year. In November. Blah!
Robert Lee here (obviously not in TX!) Just wanted to say HI!!!! Give my best to all those there who know me.
I hope your travel alarm didn't go off at an inopportune time;)
Hugs
